There is really nothing I hate talking about more than politics (she says as she launches into a blog literally about politics). When I decided to start this blog for TJ, my hope was to include the wonderful things we experienced these first months of his life and beyond. I really didn't anticipate having to write something like this. Here it goes:
Today, our country decided that Donald Trump would be our president for the next four years, at least. I won't lie to you. While you slept in your bassinet, your dad and I watched the votes come in and we cried. Okay, I cried. I cried for you. You deserve the best version of this world, my sweet boy. I hope that world still waits for you.
You were born during Barack Obama's presidency. Because of him, when I started my new job while I was pregnant with you, you and I were still able to get healthcare. Before him, my pregnancy would have been considered a "pre-existing condition" and I would not have qualified. Because of Obama, your wonderful, sweet Aunties and Uncles that you will grow up knowing and loving can get married. Before him, they weren't able to. He did so much good. And his wife Michelle was the most graceful, stunning, and hilarious first lady. People love her so much, they're hoping she will run for president in 2020.
I don't know how Donald Trump being president will affect you. Maybe not at all. This morning when you woke up, you still smiled your big, gummy smile. Blissfully unaware.
You must always respect women. You must always respect your elders. You must always respect your teachers, your peers, and your family. Don't listen to the hate. Don't let it get you down (I need to take my own advice). You are loved. You will always be loved. Tomorrow is a new day.
