Well, well, well. It's almost the end of another year. It seems like just yesterday (and apparently only 3 posts ago) that I wrote to talk about the insane year we had ahead of us. And insane it was. And is. Instead of recapping what I've already listed, I'll just share what we've (Charles, me, TJ, our parents, our friends, our dog, our cat, etc.) have learned to be important:
Taking care of yourself. Look, I get that maybe the whole "self-care" thing is a little bit trendy, but man, does that stuff work. The extra step to use that face mask or make your work lunches is currently saving mama from losing her mind over here.
Being grateful. I am struggling with this. I don't know if it's the lack of sleep or what, but I have complained more in 2017 than I ever have in my entire life. Was that a complaint? Our family did amazing things this year. Was everything perfect? No. Did we get sleep? No. But did we do it/get through it together? Yes.
Speaking kindly. See above re: Being grateful.....
Finding your tribe. This year we made a point to surround ourselves with people that lift us higher, not drag us down. It was hard. But now there is a strong, core group of people in our lives that help, inspire, and motivate us. In addition to this... find one person you can truly speak honestly to. About everything. That's not your spouse (because you should be doing that anyway, eh?). This is also hard.
And the most important lesson of all:
Take everything one day at a time. Do not lose sleep over something that hasn't happened yet. Prepare today for what is sure to be great tomorrow, because you prepared. If today is a bad day, don't bring it over to tomorrow.
What's next? Moving in before Christmas (hopefully that didn't just jinx it!) and ringing in what will be another busy, emotional year. Charles deploys in the Spring for six months. But that, my dear reader (hopefully TJ one day in his super cool dorm room at college. Or wherever. No pressure. Traditional university schooling is kind of a racket, anyway.), will have to wait.
