Well, well well. Here we are. The beginning of a new month and also a new journey.
As of September 1, I transitioned from a full-time position at my stable, salaried job to a part-time role at the same organization in order to pursue Cate Creative in a more meaningful way. In short, I am now a straight up entrepreneur (but let's keep it real, I can barely spell that word).
If you follow this very sporadically-posted blog, you'll know that about a year ago I took Cate Creative live on social media drawing a lot of attention to my then-side-hustle. In that year, my workload quadrupled and I was faced with the decision to either pump the breaks and start saying "no" or to just go for it. Well, I'm going for it.
As I type this, I am literally only four days into my new normal. I've received unreal support from friends, family, colleagues, and other entrepreneurs (shout out to Ellie for the amazing feature in the brand new ELEANORA digital magazine!). I look around and I am humbled.
Of course as I sit here, I'm bright-eyed and bushy-tailed thinking about the future, but I am SCARED AS HELL. Scared to not make enough money. To not be able to figure out our new health insurance (shout out, United States Air Force, 'ppreciate you a lot). Scared that I have no business pursuing something I never got a degree in (more on that another time).
Terrified that I will fail and let so many of those aforementioned supporters down.
It's in these moments I turn to the only voice of reason. The voice of none other than: RuPaul Charles. Bless you, Mama Ru for penning the following lyrics from your critically acclaimed hit "Sissy that Walk":
"AND IF I FLY OR IF I FALL AT LEAST I CAN SAY I GAVE IT ALL."
So, here we go. This is a thing. This is my job. It's funny. As soon as I said yes to myself and this new journey, the rest of the world said yes, too. The projects, clients, connections and lessons that have come my way in just the past month alone leave me feeling very hopeful for the next month. And the one following. And so on...
If you are reading this and you've lent an ear to me, been a client that has fed me creatively and literally, or you're my incredible husband and parents who didn't even hesitate to give me full support:
Thank you isn't enough to express my gratitude, but it's what I've got. I owe you the world. Actually, would you like a two-year-old kid that asks you to kiss him on the armpit semi-regularly? No? Okay, nevermind. And also, totally kidding.
If you haven't checked out Cate Creative yet... do it, man. I would love to help you with any graphic design, branding, social media, website or event needs you or someone you know may have. Let's tell a story together, y'all! In the meantime, check me out on Instagram and Facebook and say hello!
Have I said thank you enough, yet? No? Okay, well thank you again. For real. Thanks y'all. Onward!
